Richard Auletta Collection

AUL

This comprehensive collection of travel and tourism guidebooks from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is especially strong in the publications of the Baedeker publishing house. The collection also includes railroad and bus schedules as well as road maps. The collection is being processed and cataloged in OCLC, as items are received by OML, and records are downloaded into Ursus and here.

Until his retirement in December 2012, Richard L. Auletta BA MA was assistant professor of foreign languages at Long Island University, with a special interest in historical linguistics and linguistic geography. He built his collection of travel guides and related materials starting in his teens. His materials have been used in several OML exhibitions, including The Grand Tour and Development of Tourism, 1600 to 1900 (2011-2012).
