Historical Context: There were various editions of the Atlas Minor first published in 1683 with 91 maps. This edition appears to be between 1688 and 1689. A map by Nicolas Visscher of the kingdom of England and Wales, and sold by John Overton, is dedicated to King James II, who was deposed in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution and replaced by William III. The atlas primarily includes Visscher maps, two maps by Frederik de Wit, one by Sanson d'Abbeville and Nicolas Visscher's father's map of the Holy Land dated 1659. Engravers for some of the maps include Abraham Goos, N.P. Berchem, and Gerard de Lairesse.
