This lesson uses maps of the world from the 1500s to the 1900s in a completely interactive lesson about map features, the continents and oceans, and other geographic landforms.

Preteaching

Intended to be completed in the classroom before the scheduled field trip or class visit, the pre-teaching activity will give students some familiarity with the terms, ideas, and visuals, that they will see during the actual visit.


Looking Closer

During this portion of the visit, students will be asked to look closely at the set of maps to find examples of common map features, the seven continents, five oceans, and other geographic landforms.
