Notes: Verso: Hand colored drawings of the U.S.S. Chesapeake and the U.S.S. Potomac. Both frigates served in the United States Navy. The Chesapeake was involved in the War of 1812 and the Potomac primarily served to protect American interests in Latin America. Chesapeake was captured by the British in 1813 and in 1819 her timbers were broken up and sold. Potomac formed part of the blockade off of Mobile Bay during the American Civil War. She also was support for General Zachary Taylor's army during the Mexican-American War in 1848. She was decommissioned in 1877 and sold to E. Stannard & Company.
