Brief Description: Anti-fascist map by Richard Q. Yardley and Peggy Yardley one of a series of anti-fascist maps drawn by Yardley and one of the few which includes a credit to his wife Peggy. Image takes aim at fascist Italy and its colonial interests in Ethiopia and the contiguous regions of the Arabian Peninsula. The map illustrates the growing threat of Hitler and shows the ineffective responses by Britain and France. Illustrations include ethnically inappropriate images of former African colonies. Hitler is pictured as an angry sun with threatening rays pointing to the colonies owned by France, Belgium, Britain and Germany. Verso: "El Caudillo the all but human doll" is a colored illustration depicting Spain's dictator Francisco Franco as a mechanical puppet giving the fascist salute to an amused Hitler. Mussolini is pictured as a green monster dressed in black. Included is commentary about the dictators and atrocities committed by Franco during the Spanish Civil War. Caricature is by artist Sam Berman who worked for Ken Magazine which began publishing on April 7, 1938. The magazine was a controversial anti-fascist publication which ceased in the fall of 1939 due to wariness of advertisers and a boycott by the Catholic Church.
