Notes: This map was engraved as part of a set of world and four continent maps. It could be the first general map of America engraved in England, a year after the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Hondius's map is the earliest one relating to America. Hondius later sold the plates of these maps to Parisian publisher Jean Le Clerc.
