Historical Context: Ethnographic map of Eurasia promoting "Pan-Turanism", a nationalist cultural and political movement beginning in the 19th century. It originated with Finnish nationalist and linguist Matthias Alexander Castren. Map includes charts showing ancestral relationships between ethnic groups and is colored-coded to show divisions of each group. Map was created by Kitagawa Shikazo, a leading Japanese Turanian activist.
