Brief Description: From the first issue of Ken Magazine founded on April 7, 1938. A controversial, political, large format magazine with full page photo spreads. Founded by David A. Smart and editor Arnold Gingrich who had founded Esquire. Featured writers included Ernest Hemingway and John Spivak. It ceased publication in the fall of 1939. Illustrations are of WWII dictators Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco and Stalin who is not part of the group but somewhat isolated in the USSR. Verso: Images of paintings by German artist George Grosz showing a horrific war scene and the aftermath of a war cemetery with wreaths and flowers on the crosses. Also included is a caricature of Hermann Goring "Goering the gaudy cockerel". Goring was one of the most powerful figures in the Nazi Party.
