Brief Description: An 1812 issue of the Weekly Messenger published in Boston attacking the gerrymandering of Massachusetts signed into law by Governor Elbridge Gerry. The tabloid newspaper, a Federalist-leaning publication, showed the maps of the counties divided into their respective towns with dotted lines indicating the boundaries of the new electoral districts. These divisions benefited the Republicans and the law was proven so unpopular that Gerry was voted out of office. He was later elected James Madison's vice-president.
