Brief Description: Wood engraved map with watercolored stenciled highlights with an inset map in the lower-left corner of the Crimean Peninsula. The map accompanied one of the 1856 editions of William Russell's "Complete History of the Russian War". William Russell was a correspondent for the London Times and the book was published by John G. Wells in New York. The map illustrates the battlefield of the Crimean War featuring sites of the various armies involved in the conflict. The reference key lists twenty-nine military locations for the French and English armies and navy, Turkish redoubts where Russian vessels have been sunk. The Crimean War was a military conflict fought from October, 1853 to February, 1856. The cause of the war involved the rights of Christian minorities in Palestine which was part of the Ottoman Empire. The war involved the French, Russian, British and Ottomans.
