Brief Description: Battle map of the French line in Brabant between the rivers Mahangne and the Oude Gete, Belgium in December 28, 1703. Included is the order of battle and numbered parapets and moats. The battle was part of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1715) involving the leading European powers that triggered the death in November, 1700 of the childless Charles II of Spain. The Spanish king had named Philip of Anjou, a grandson of Louis XIV as his heir. Philip accepted but the proclamation led to war, with France and Spain on one side and the Grand Alliance on the other to maintain the separation of the Spanish and French thrones. The war was concluded by the treaties of Utrecht in 1713 and Rastatt in 1714. Philip V remained king of Spain but was removed from the French line of succession.
