Brief Description: Attributed to Harriet Jane Farley, an American writer, abolitionist and editor of The Lowell Offering from 1842 to 1845 and The New England Offering from 1847 to 1850. Harriet Farley worked in the Lowell mills as a weaver and began a writing group which later grew inot a magazine called The Lowell Offering. This song/poem likely came from the Lowell Offering which featured stories, letters, poetry and songs written by mill girls who described their lives in the mills.
