Brief Description: Promotional map of lands owned by W.H. Brown & Co. real estate with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Mandan, North Dakota. It includes locations of springs, mines, wagon roads and proposed railway lines. Included is the location of Bismarck across the Missouri River. Lower right corner indicates the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Standing Rock Reservation was originally established as part of the Great Sioux Reservation through the Treaty of Fort Laramie on April 29, 1868. The Dawes Act in 1889 greatly reduced the reservation land opening it up to white homesteaders from the eastern part of the country. A year later the United States government broke the Lakota Treaty by breaking up the reservation into smaller reservations.
