The bunting on the building balcony quotes an excerpt from Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address. On April 14, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by well-known stage actor John Wilkes Booth, a Southern sympathizer at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.
