Brief Description: Embossed chromolithographic advertisement for the forthcoming Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York in 1901, depicting North and South America as allegorical female figures joining hands on a globe in friendship. Artist's name in lower right of work; publisher in lower left of work; printer's imprint in bottom right corner. Raphael Beck was an American artist best known for his work related to the Pan-American Exposition. He painted what would be the last portrait of William McKinley before the president was assassinated at the exposition.

Historical Context: The exposition highlighted the cultures and achievements of the Western Hemisphere. It was also the first to display electric power that lit up all the buildings on the grounds. The exposition's successes were overshadowed by the assassination of President William McKinley who was at the Temple of Music when anarchist Leon Czolgosz shot him.
