Brief Description: Commissioned by the Committee on Public Information, the poster pays tribute to the contributions of African-Americans during World War I and the 369th Infantry Regiment known as the "Harlem Hellfighters" from New York. Included is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln looking at the regiment's attack on the Germans. The text is from the Gettysburg Address "Liberty and freedom shall not perish". The poster represents the opportunity for Black Americans to continue to fight for freedom and to prove their patriotism. The committee was established in 1917 by President Woodrow Wilson to promote enlistments and to mobilize public opinion behind the war.
