Brief Description: "That part of Madam De Gregoire land grant west of the Donaquee River." In the early 1790's the De Gregoires sold off much of their land of Mt. Desert Island claim. Some of the lands were purchased by General Henry Knox. Donaquee or Donaqua River is the name for the Penobscot and Union Rivers. Marie Therese De La Mothe De Gregoire was the granddaughter of Antoine La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, the Frenchman who named Cadillac Mountain and the founder of Detroit. She was awarded the eastern half of the island based on a family claim but sold off her holdings.
