Brief Description: The illustrated sheet is taken from a painting by artist Henry Worrall who promoted Kansas as abundant farmland. The image appeared in railroad literature for farmers. However, in the 1870's a drought returned with a plague of grasshoppers that destroyed crops. Lewis R. Elliott was an agent for the Kansas Pacific, and the Union Pacific Railroads. He was elected secretary and later president of the Manhattan and Northwestern Railway Company. In Manhattan, Kansas he was well-known as an insurance agent and real estate developer.
