Dodge died in 1864 and the assumption is that it was completed later and his name was kept on the survey. Number 31 may have been part of the Bingham Penobscot Purchase which was organized in 1860. Number 31 MD Plantation in the North Washington townships of Washington County, Maine. Currently it is the unorganized territory of Township 31 MD BPP known as Day Block Township.
