Kommissar is a Cold War era board game on the Soviet economis system as perceived by Americans. The goal of the game is to flee the country, get to the People's Airport for a flight to a warmer, democratic or capitalistic location. By selling forbidden western items such as nylon stockings and cowboy boots, the player sells them for cash to the People's Hock-Shop so long as the Kommissar doesn't catch you. Cover features a commissar catching a man reading the stock market ticker tape.

Historical Context: The Cold War was a period of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies. It encompassed a nuclear arms race, psychological warfare, espionage and embargoes. Germany was divided into West and East and a wall was constructed by the East Germans to keep its citizens from escaping to the West. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989 -90 brought German unification and the end of the Berlin Wall.
