Detailed view of Bangor's importance in the lumber industry featuring different types of vessels and activities along the Penobscot River. It was lithographed by Charles Parsons. Benjamin Franklin Smith and his brothers formed the Smith Brothers who worked in the view-making industry. John William Hill was an artist based in New York. He and his family emigrated from London to Philadelphia. John William Hill worked for a time for the New York State Geological Survey. Endicott and Company was a New York based lithography firm founded by brothers George and William Endicott. It was known for its 19th century views such as the Bangor view, New York City and state and plans of Sacramento, California.
