Brief Description: Demonstration by Berry Brothers, varnish manufacturers at the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 showing the results of their varnish on the Redwood plank. The plank was cut in 1890 in Humboldt County, California and finished with the company's varnish. Inside cover illustrates the finished side of the plank after the varnish was applied. The World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 celebrated the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1892. The fair showcased 65,000 exhibits displaying American power and values including medicine and social reform and business. The grounds were landscaped by Frederick Law Olmsted and Harry Codman.
