Brief Description: Five illustrated and colored souvenir postcards of the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago from May 5 to October 31, 1893 to commemorate Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492. Each postcard features exhibit buildings: Woman's Building displaying women's achievements; the Electrical Building by Westinghouse Electric; Mines Building; Government Building featuring a portrait of President Grover Cleveland, and the Horticultural Building displaying cacti, orchids and a greenhouse. Two of the designers for the exposition were Daniel Burnham and Frederick Law Olmsted. "Copyright 1893 by Charles W. Goldsmith, the agent for the United States, The Isabella, 48 Van Buren St., Chicago". Goldsmith was the representative of the American Lithographic Company of New York. He obtained the contract from the fair committee to print multi-colored postcards.
