Historical Context: Emma Willard was an educator and founded the first school for women's higher education called the Troy Female Seminary in Troy, New York. She traveled the country and abroad promoting education for women. Emma Willard co-wrote geographies and atlases including the widely used Historical Atlas of the United States.  The Temple of Time was published in her 1836 Atlas to Accompany A System of Universal Geography.
