Brief Description: Currier and Ives lithographic print promoted education, patriotism and civic virtue using images such as books, physical education represented by barbells, maps and globes emphasizing the study of geography and  the new American republic coming after the Civil War. Nathaniel Currier was an American lithographer who partnered with James Merritt Ives who oversaw the business side of the firm. They were best known for popular art prints such as Christmas scenes and landscapes. They also produced banners, illustrations of current and historical events.
