Brief Description: Attributed to Benjamin Franklin while acting as Pennsylvania's colonial agent in London. The political cartoon was designed and engraved for the Political Register in December, 1768. The first panel shows Great Britain disgused as Roman General Belisarius dismembered and contemplating her lost limbs designated Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and New England. The second panel shows Dutch, French and Spanish figures attacking Britannia. The cartoonist blames the British government's policies for alienating the American colonies beginning with the Stamp Act of 1765.
