Notes: Copy of the will of Sir Francis Bernard who served as governor of the provinces of New Jersey and Massachusetts Bay. His policies led to opposition within the colonies and eventually would influence the start of the American Revolution. The will stipulates the administration of the land grant of Mount Desert Island, Maine under the auspices of Francis Waldo, collector of the port of Falmouth and Walter Logan of Roxbury. Included is a proviso that the eldest son of Sir Francis, John Bernard be allowed the use of the land. The will also provides for other family members.
