Brief Description: Chromolithograph depicting the Battle of Nashville, a two day battle fought on December 15th to the 16th, 1864. The Confederate Army of Tennessee and the Union Army of the Cumberland fought the battle which was eventually won by the Union Army ending the Tennessee army's effective fighting force. It also shows Black Union infantry, the 13th USCT and 2nd Colored Brigade charging Confederate cannon battery.

Historical Context: This battle and many more were fought during the American Civil War from April 12, 1861 to May 26, 1865. The main conflict that provoked the conflict was slavery. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, several southern states  seceded and after the outbreak of war more followed led by Confederate president Jefferson Davis. 
The war ended with the Confederate surrender on April 9, 1865.
