Brief Description: Fifty pictures documenting the worst floods in Maine in 1936 documented by the Lewiston Daily Sun and the Lewiston Evening Journal. A combination of heavy rain and melting snow resulted in flooding throughout New England between March 11th and the 13th. In Lewiston and Auburn the high waters of the Androscoggin River submerged houses, bridges and buildings. Significant damage resulted from the movement of ice on rivers and ice jams and breaks.
Historical Context: In 1936 most of the New England states were affected by massive floods that destroyed everything in its path. Not only did it hit Maine but the Mid-Atlantic region.
