Roger Baskes Collection

BAS

A set of the annual reports of the U.S. Coast Survey, 1844-1867 and the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (1868-1919), together with some related items.

Roger Baskes is a Chicago lawyer with a deep commitment to the study of early atlases and nineteenth-century U.S. cartography. While he has donating most of his extensive map and atlas collection to The Newberry Library in Chicago, he gave OML this set of coast survey reports in recognition of the importance of the sea to Maine.
