Brief Description: Publication shows the location of allotments given to Seminole Indians in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Includes townships, ranges and boundaries. The land allotments for the Seminole Indians and Freedmen were decided by the Dawes Act of 1887 introduced by Senator Henry Dawes of Massachusetts. The act gave the president of the United States the authority to subdivide Native American tribal landholdings into allotments for Native American heads of families and individuals. This also changed the traditional systems of land tenure into government - imposed systems of private property. The act also opened up remaining Native land for appropriation by white settlers. Plats were drawn by E. Hastain of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Included is the final roll of Seminoles by blood, newborn freedmen and age table of Seminoles. Also included is a poem by Moore called "Oil of Seminole County" alluding to the oil industry.
