Notes: The Industrial Removal Office was an American movement to disperse Jewish immigrants throughout the United States from 1900 to 1917. It was founded and financially supported by the Baron de Hirsch Fund with the collaboration of B'nai B'rith. The Industrial Removal Office sought to persuade and assist Jewish workers to leave the congested immigrant districts of Boston, Philadelphia, and above all New York, for smaller cities where Jewish communities existed and a variety of jobs were available. About 75,000 Jews were so assisted. (Encyclopedia Judaica, Vol. 8, p. 1363)
