Brief Description: Debbie Crompton was a student at a Detroit-area high school in 1968. Her 21 page report analyzes the most destructive civil disturbances ever to happen in America. The riot occurred between April 4th and 5th following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. The city's public buildings and private businesses were destroyed because of the looting, ransacking and arson fires. Crompton's report includes hand-drawn maps and newspaper photographs of the riots. In the end she discusses whether or not the riots could have been prevented. There is some stereotyping and finger-pointing throughout the narrative.
