Notes: The Daily Citizen was edited and published in Vicksburg, MS by J.M. Swords. Because of a paper shortage during the Civil War, the publisher resorted to using wallpaper. This issue is dated July 2, 1863. On July 4, 1863 Vicksburg surrendered and J.M. Swords fled. The Union forces found the type and added a note on the bottom right hand corner of the sheet. Handwritten note on image 35965.0002 - "New Years present the last issue of the rebel paper at Vicksburg, Miss, love to all, write and give me all the news. F. M. Ong."Fictitious imprint; one of the many reprints of the July 4, 1863 altered version of the issue for July 2, 1863, reflecting the fall of Vicksburg.No. 1 in Brigham, C.S.
