Brief Description: Coffin's 1835 manuscript map shows townships labeled "Indian Townships", located near modern day Mattawamkeag and near modern day Millinocket. Included is a township known today as Indian Purchase west of Millinocket. Despite the Treaty of 1818, the lands were sold in 1833 by the State of Maine despite protests by the Penobscots which were ignored by the governor.
