Historical Context: The Creek and Seminole Nations were located in the Indian Territory, now the state of Oklahoma. They were forcibly relocated from the south because of Indian removal policies. The Seminoles were originally from Florida and formed part of groups of Creek Indians. They were forced to move to Indian Territory. The Indian Removal Act was signed on May 28, 1830 by President Andrew Jackson. The act authorized the president to relocate American Indians to unsettled land in the west hereby addressing a demand for Indian nations' lands.
