2018 Symposium of the International Society for the History of the Map
21–23 June 2018
Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education, University of Southern Maine
We invite proposals for the 2018 conference of the International Society for the History of the Map, to be held at the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education, University of Southern Maine, 21–23 June 2018.
We welcome proposals for presentations or posters on any topic in map history, i.e., on any aspect of the production, circulation, consumption, and curation of early maps. But we especially seek proposals that address two or more of the conference’s three keywords. Preferred topics would therefore include histories of thematic maps and mapping, territorial (topographical) mapping, boundary mapping, cadastral mapping, and so on. Please note that we consider an early map to be any map no longer used for its intended purpose, so that the scope of map history can embrace the recent as well as distant past.
The formal CFP will be issued in October 2017. The deadline for proposal submission will be 15 January 2018.
