On behalf of the International Society for the History of the Map and the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education at the University of Southern Maine, I invite you to the next ISHM annual symposium, 21–23 June 2018. We welcome any contribution in the history of maps and mapping, although preference will be shown to papers, posters, or sessions that address two out of the symposium’s three keywords. More information is available in the Call for Papers[The call for papers is now closed.]

The program will include the annual general meeting for ISHM on 22 June 2018.

Please note that there is some confusion over the submission process: all submissions and registrations must be through the process laid out in the Call for Papers. An explanaiton is available, should anyone be interested.

Portland, Maine

Portland has a vibrant restaurant and micro-brew scene. The working waterfront makes it a destination city for seafood lovers. The art scene is thriving. And it is an eminently walkable city. It is easily accessible by air (Portland International Jetport, PWM) and by rail (Amtrak Downeaster from Boston North Station).

Wharf St., Portland

All meetings will be held in the facilities of the Osher Map Library on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine.

OML at USM

Just a reminder: Portland, Maine (airport code PWM) should not be confused with Portland, Oregon (airport code PDX). PDX is a beautful city, but it’s an entire continent removed from the real Portland!

The ISHM 2018 symposium is underwritten by the Osher Chair in the History of Cartography, University of Southern Maine.
