Henry Raleigh illustrated the poster in 1917 for the United States Food Administration. Raleigh was an accomplished draftsman and illustrator and was the lithographer behind many of the World War I posters. The United States Food Administration was established by an Act of Congress in 1917 to manage food distribution, production and conservation during wartime. Led by Herbert Hoover it also supplied Allied troops.
