Historical Context: Acadia National Park is located along the mid-section of the Maine coast. It dates back more than 10,000 years ago with the Wabanaki people. Fur traders from Europe came in the 17th century while in the 19th century the park saw an influx of summer visitors and then wealthy families. George B. Dorr known as "the father of Acadia National Park spent most of his life overseeing the park's formation and expansion.
