9. Uncovering the Antarctic

EXHIBIT NAVIGATION

Modern satellite and geophysical technologies now permit us to map Antarctica and its ice sheets in unprecedented detail. In 2012, multiple sources of data were combined in this revealing map, which for the first time imaged the Antarctic landscape that had lain buried under the ice sheets for hundreds of thousands of years [item 83]. This work is the culmination of the scientific work that underpinned the work of Scott and Shackleton as they sought to fathom the secrets of Antarctica.
